The first pizzeria was opened in Naples, Italy in 1830. 148 years later Spagalimis opened its doors in Christchurch, New Zealand. Since 1978 we at Spagalimis have been providing great pizza to locals and visitors alike. Spag’s is now world famous. We will never compromise our quality. We select the freshest local produce and ingredients to go into the food that bears our name.

The pizza was created by peasants in Naples in 1830. In 1889 Queen Margherita had a special pizza made for her. It consisted of basil, mozzarella and tomato. The colour of the pizza was symbolic of the Italian flag. Green, white, red. With the endorsement from the Queen, pizza became famous around the world.
